HCHC's Board of Directors

A Board of Directors is an elected or appointed body of people that oversee activities of an organization. A unique thing about Board of Directors at the HCHC is that 51% are patients of the HCHC. Members are a mix of JMU faculty & alumni, Rockingham Memorial Hospital donors, Harrisonburg business members, and local physicians. We are grateful to have the following people apart of the HCHC family as our Board of Directors:
David Cockely, Ph. D.
Katy Harrison
Betty Newell
Steve Phillips, MD
Jane Pirooz
Gary Race
Alan Shelton
John Taylor
Bob Underwood, MD
Wayne Woodson
Rhonda Zingraff, Ph. D.
Beth Beahm
Ron Yoder
Ben Burks
Merinda Hamblin, DDS

A History of the HCHC

2006 Several community partners joined the Healthy Community Council to conduct a needs assessment. The results of the Healthy Community Council Report showed that significant challenges in accessing health care in the area existed.

2007 The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration designated Harrisonburg, Virginia as having a Medically Underserved Population.

2008 Rockingham Memorial Hospital supported the creation of the HCHC with a significant contribution, as did the Virginia Health Care foundation with a three-year grant. The health center became a non-profit 501(c)3 federally qualified health center. This year the HCHC saw its first patient, and continued on to serve 1,739 patients.

2009 An application was submitted by the HCHC for Facilities Investment Project grant for a new facility. This year 2,998 patients were served.

2010 The Medication Assistance Program began. The U.S. Department of Health awarded the HCHC the Capital Development Grant totaling $2,076,215.

2011 Construction began on the new facility. The HCHC has also began the process to earn the designation of a Patient Centered Medical Home.

2012 As construction on the HCHC’s new facility is well underway, be on the look out for new & exciting things the HCHC is doing to better serve the Harrisonburg community! August 2012 is the anticipated completion date for the new building at 1355 Port Republic Road.
